Old Town Community Association releases plan for revitalizing Portland neighborhood

The Old Town Community Association has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing safety, cleanliness, and accessibility in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood. Spearheaded by Jessie Burke, owner of The Society Hotel and chair of the association, the initiative seeks to address the challenges posed by increased gun violence, drug addiction, mental health crises, and the prevalence of sidewalk camping. The plan outlines both short-term and long-term goals, including improved lighting, policing, and cleanup efforts, as well as strategies for reducing sidewalk camping. Burke emphasizes the urgent need for resources to support individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, highlighting the dire situation in Old Town and the necessity of a humane and effective response.
